Reputedly a Welsh bible chair.
Made up in Oak with a replaced woven seagrass seat.
The relatively upright posture and the way that the elbows are naturally supported suggest the description and original supposed use of the chair; The sitter’s naturally adopts the posture of the head of the family reading the bible to the gathered family. Actually, the design lends itself to home office work. Seagrass is used to weave a hard-wearing and attractive seat that with reasonable care will last for many years.
Surprisingly slender and somewhat austere in appearance, the only embellishment being the low relief carved inverted heart motif in the back top rail.
