Clock Repair Courses IrelandIf you have a clock on the mantelpiece, a large one in the hall or one on the wall and you would like to discover what makes it tick or why it doesn’t. If you have ever viewed an auction and were afraid to buy a clock as you were not sure what you were looking at. This weekend will change your perspective on clocks.

A weekend of clock appreciation in which you can bring along your own clock for examination and discussion and where by viewing a mock auction we learn the do’s and don’t of buying clocks.

Saturday
We meet at nine and over a cup of tea/coffee we get to meet new friends and catch up with old and share common interests.

clock Repair IrelandWe look at a longcase clock (grandfather) and explain how it tells the time. We give an opportunity for people to get hands on with a clock and disassemble it and examine it in more detail.

At eleven we have tea and biscuits but the discussions continue.

When we return we look at the problems that arise with clocks after years of wear.
Cleaning, bushings, worn pivots worn spring, various clock repairs and there solutions are discussed with practical experience bushing etc.

At one we have lunch, outside if the sun shines.

After lunch we head to the case workshop to look at clock cases and there history. Veneers, French polishing and minor repairs are looked at in detail. This is an opportunity for people to try French polishing and or any other minor repairs.

Tea at 4 and more clock talk.

We then look at any clocks that have been brought and see what we can find out about them and discuss there history and origin and where we can find this information.

We break about six.

Sunday
Repairing ClocksWe meet at nine over tea /coffee and discuss our plans for the day.

We start by looking at the striking train on a clock and how it works and different variations of strike/chime etc.

Tea and chat at eleven.

After tea we look at dials (faces) on clocks and how we can date clocks from there dials and cases .We will discuss a clocks history from the 1600’s up to the mass production in the latter half of the 19th century using various clocks to show differences etc.

Break for lunch and chat at one.

After lunch we look at the do’s and don’ts of buying clocks. We invite you to view a mock auction of clocks and give us your thoughts .We then look at these clocks in more detail to see if everything is what we think it is.

Tea at four.

After tea we give an opportunity for people to do whatever they would like to do. More casework, look at movements in more detail bush a clock, take a movement out of its case, French polish etc.

The aim of this workshop is to increase your appreciation of clocks in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. While enjoying good food and good conversation we want to increase your enthusiasm and interest in clocks and give you the tools to learn more.
