The OLD CLOCK SHOP

Welcome to The Old Clock Shop

You’re in the right place for anything to do with longcase clocks (but only longcase clocks)
We’re Nigel Barnes and Austin Jordan

What we mean by longcase clocks is hand-made clocks like the ones in our picture, made in the British Isles between late 1600s and mid-late 1800s.There are no two the same.

Austin does the clock repairs and Nigel does everything else. So if you’re thinking of buying a longcase clock, make an appointment to talk it over. Or you have one in need of repair - We repair and restore movements and cases.

Contact us if you have one and you want to know more about it or if you just want some advice
We do all the repair work ourselves and we make up replacement parts ourselves.
We run clock appreciation weekend workshop courses Link to Courses Page

ABOUT US

Nigel and Austin are Co-authors of a book about longcase clocks to be published by Crowood Press in late 2012

Sometime around 1800 a German clockmaker went to England and started a business in Norwich. He was Nigel’s great-great-great grandfather, Charles Zipfel. About the same time Austin’s Great-great-grandfather was making and selling clocks in east County Limerick.

Some of Nigel’s ancestors

Austin is a trained clock repairer and Nigel is a collector and antique restorer.

Clock Sales

We don’t have a web-page with lots of pictures of clocks because we don’t think that’s the right way to buy one.

But there are plenty of clocks available and we prefer potential buyers to spend some time looking at different types and styles and even then we don’t expect a commitment.

To make an appointment for sales or discuss repair or restoration
