Details of Chair 1557
An Edwardian Ebonised Open Arm Chair
Details: The ebonising or blackening of late 19th and early 20th century furniture is usually assumed to be part of the widespread mourning for Queen Victoria’s passing in 1901.
That date would be about right but I cannot tell if the ebonising was contemporary with the manufacture or if the chair was made a little earlier and the black applied later, on the queen’s demise .
The frame has been thoroughly repaired, re-glued, treated and otherwise brought back to a good serviceable condition.
The woodwork (where showing) has been re-polished in French or Shellac polish.
The upholstery fabric is new, good quality material.
