A Thonet Bentwood carver
Details: Michel Thonet developed the process of steam-bent mass produced chairs in the mid-1800s. The wood is Beech and the cane seat and back are new replacements. This example was made in the Czechoslovakian factory and is stamped accordingly. Unfortunately old Thonet chairs are now becoming quite rare, rarer still, the carvers, and more rare still, the carvers with caned seats and backs.
