Details of Antique 6529
A Secretaire Bookcase adapted form a George IV Piano
Details: John Broadwood and Sons started making Cottage Upright pianos in 1822: This is an early example and may be compared with the image supplied by Piano Auctions Ltd of a slightly later, 1829 example.
This instrument was converted, probably some time in the late 19th century to a secretaire bookcase, retaining the piano cylinder fall front: The width is that of a 6 octave (73 note) instrument so it is narrower than a modern piano.
The writing surface slides out from below the fitted drawers.
A solid, functional and very attractive piece of furniture.
